For Today: October 17th

We carry our homes within us which enable us to fly.
John Cage

Where I live is inside myself.  My home is mine to keep exactly as it has always been----or to change it.  The steps tell me how to clean and rearrange my home; when I am ready, my Higher Power removes stubborn defects I can do nothing about.  I alone can clutter up the space I live in with resentments, anger, self-pity----and I alone can deal with that clutter.  I have the tools I need and helpers standing by.  I no longer have to be a victim, letting old ideas creep in and destructive thoughts pile up.  The OA program shows me how to keep my home in good order.

For Today:  Am I comfortable within myself?  Do I give myself the cleanliness, warmth and caring I need?

If I stay in victim mode, doesn't that entitle me to overeat to soothe my wounded soul?

Cluttering up my spirit with negative energy prevents me from growing; it keeps me preoccupied with unimportant details and dwelling on old resentments.  If I want to maintain Recovery, I de-clutter my mind, get out of my own head, and open myself up to a new way of thinking.  I clean house and get rid of the resentments, anger and self pity that threaten my program and keep me wanting to overeat.

The only thing that has to change is everything.  It all begins with a strong Food Plan and the willingness to commit to it.  Once I accept the terms of my disease for what it is, I can deal with it accordingly, with God's help, and the support of the Fellowship.  Once I find & maintain abstinence for a while, all good things begin to flow from there.  Without abstinence, I stay stuck in my old ways, and it becomes difficult to think a better way exists.

For today, I am working on Spring cleaning.........even though it is Autumn.  It's always the right time to de-clutter and to get my internal house in order!
