For Today: March 20th

For Today: March 20th

Failure is impossible.
Susan B. Anthony

The Big Book says, “Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path.” The word rarely has been questioned, but the reason for its use seems obvious: making arrogant claims violates the most fundamental principle of the twelve-step program.

Yet, few in this program would deny that whatever one believes to be possible, is possible. To begin the program with a feeling that I will fail is to hobble myself cruelly and almost certainly guarantees failure.

Those who set forth in the belief that failure is impossible have vastly superior forces on their side.

For Today: This program works for everyone who wants and expects it to work.

Before I came to OA, I thought I was destined to be fat, miserable & addicted to excess.  By the time I came upon the steps, I cried when I read step 1:

We admitted that we were powerless over food ; that our lives had become unmanageable.
YES!!! I AM powerless over food and my life WAS unmanageable!

What did I have to lose by throwing myself into the OA program of recovery? God knows I had tried everything else on earth by that time.

I had nothing to lose but everything to gain.  I was taught to rely on God instead of myself to find peace, serenity & recovery.

I fully believed the steps would help me if I was willing to go to whatever lengths were necessary to find & preserve abstinence.

I was right.

For today, I pray to never lose sight of my true goals; Abstinence & quiet acceptance of Life on Life’s terms, according to God’s plan for me, not mine.
