For Today: July 2nd

Cursed be the social lies that warp us from the living truth.
Alfred Lord Tennyson

“Come now, one bite can’t hurt you.”
It can if you’re a compulsive overeater.

If I believe the well-meaning people who understand nothing of my affliction, I may be a lonely audience of one to the outcome. If I can learn so many things through practice, I can learn to say No.  Until the, I may have to give up old friends, old places, old activities.  It is called going to any lengths.

For Today: I am always aware of who I am and what my limitations are.  I can turn down food and drink that may be dangerous for me as easily as I can get out of the way of a speeding car.

Sometimes people feel sorry for me so they tell me to have 'just a bite' of this or that, that it can't hurt me.  As a compulsive overeater, taking that FIRST compulsive bite ALWAYS hurts me.  It can start off a chain reaction that keeps me overeating until I'm physically & mentally sick.

Me taking 'just a bite' is the equivalent of the alcoholic taking 'just one drink' or the drug addict taking 'just one' dose.  Not likely to happen.......one is too many & a million is not enough.

For today, I ignore what other people have to say about MY program. Until they have walked in MY shoes, they will never understand the cunning, baffling & powerful disease that compulsive overeating really IS.

For today, I practice saying 3 simple words that will save my life: No Thank You.
